was your spouse narcissistic?

Firstly I must let you know that I am not a big fan of labels as they are too general. I have also witnessed many people thinking that they were doomed because a so called professional had diagnosed them with such and such diss-ease when in reality it was completely wrong and, feeling so relieved by that discovery.

Then there's the fact that there is many different types of narcissistic behaviours.

So what is narcissism in a person? Narcissism is an extreme way to control others. It's self-involvement to the point where that person completely ignores the needs of those around them. It's all about them getting what they want, no matter what!

A narcissistic man or woman exhibits a pattern of grandiosity, has a huge ego, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy. This manifests as an inflated sense of self-importance, a habit to exploit others, and a deep-seated insecurity masked by arrogance. He or she may also display a sense of entitlement and be manipulative in relationships. And they can be very canning... While just about anyone may have narcissistic behaviour, in my opinion, once in a while, true narcissists often disregard others or their feelings. They don't understand the effect their behaviour has on other people and they simply don't care.

My late husband was a Master Narcissistic without a single doubt. For 20 years, he had me in a spin... I obviously believed everything he said as he was such a brilliant mind operator. He had such great charisma. He knew exactly how to play me, what to say, when and how to get what he wanted.

And if I tried to stand up to him, he would either get very aggressive or threaten to kill himself!

You may wonder how...

For example:

- He wouldn't let me have friends by convincing me that they are always the ones who end up betraying you and sleep with your husband...

- He didn't want me to work just in case I might meet someone else...

- He didn't want us to have a computer, let alone the internet, so I would not be able to meet someone else...

- He insisted on getting money from me to go and have a bet or buy his drugs, even it it was that money was meant to go towards rent or food, saying that I was lucky that he wasn't like other men who went to the pub after work and drink every night...

Basically He was a super skilled manipulator; a brilliant hassler. As a professional Gigolo for 10 years before he knew me, where he practiced in the field, he had perfected his people's skills and was an extraordinary operator. This was in fact what I found extremely amazing and attractive about him and felt privileged that he had chosen me to be his wife. He was fascinating to watch as he would create things out of thin air.

On Saturday morning, for example, he would read the newspaper and check out the races columns... He would then call his mate, a barrister and say: "Hey just got a really hot tip in race 5, such and such horse, blah blah blah. Can you put a $100 on the nose for me? I'm coming over. He would then go and collect his winning and keep betting all day until it was all gone again...

He often used tactics such as gaslighting, guilt-tripping, and playing the victim to control others, especially me to get what he wanted.

Another time he would go and strategically place himself next to a good pray at the poker machines and play his little $20 which I had no choice but to give him...

Within minutes he would strike a conversation playing the 'poor me' card. He would tell them that he was there to win the rent money for his family. And guess what? They would give it to him.

He used to call it 'picking money from the tree'.

His manipulative behaviour caused me significant psychological harm, leading to damage to my nervous system which showed up in many different ways.

Unfortunately, this kind of trauma stays in your own personal vibrations which will cause you to attract the same kind of relationship again, over and over again unless you do some seriously deep work to release it all.

As an eternal optimistic, I kept working on myself believing that it would in turn lift him as leaving him was not an option. I chose to focus on being the best mother I could be with what I had.

And let's face it, in between events he was an amazing man, so funny, so loving and so protective of us.

Feel free to reach out and book a time to have a conversation with me.

Angelically Yours

Angelique

was your husband narcissistic?

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, right?

In today’s world, much is said about the pressures and challenges faced by women, but far too often, the struggles of men are overlooked or dismissed. Many men carry a silent burden — expected to be strong providers, emotionally reserved, and consistently dependable, all while suppressing their own needs and vulnerabilities. The societal pressure to “man up” or “tough it out” creates an emotional cage that leaves little room for men to express fear, sadness, or even fatigue.

Society tells men to be tough buy sensitive, stoic but emotionally available, successful but not too successful (lest they seem arrogant). They're supposed to have six-packs abs, a six-figure income and the emotional intelligence of a therapist - all while remembering to take the trash out before being asked. It's no wonder so many guys walk around looking like they just left a hostage negotiation.

One of the most common — yet rarely discussed — struggles men face is feeling undervalued. Many work tirelessly to support their families, sacrificing personal dreams, passions, and even health, but often receive little recognition or appreciation. This lack of affirmation can chip away at a man’s sense of self-worth, especially when combined with criticism or emotional withdrawal in their relationships.

And then there's the nagging. Ah yes - the melodic symphony of "Why don't you ever...?" and  "How many times do I have to tell you...?" You could be a decorated war veteran or a NASA engineer, but one "You left your socks on the floor again" can reduce a man to a confused golden retriever who just wants a snack and a nap.

Joking aside, nagging isn't just a punchline - it chips away at men's self-esteem, especially when they already feel like they're failing to meet impossible standards. This will have a massive impact on their Vagus nerve... Many aren't asking for praise every five minutes, just a little understanding, the occasional "thank you" and maybe some peace during half time.

More seriously, a growing number of men find themselves in relationships marked by narcissistic abuse — subtle manipulation, gaslighting, emotional invalidation, and control. This kind of abuse often goes unrecognised because men are expected to be emotionally invincible. Admitting that they’re being emotionally mistreated is seen by some as weakness because they've been told that real men don't complain. Spoiler alert: real men do hurt. They just often do it quietly, in the garage pretending to fix something that isn't even broken.

No one thinks of the repercussion this has in their lives...

Did you know that a lot of men become gay simply because it's easier?

Did you know that 80% of men who visit massage parlours are married?

And did you know that The incidence of suicide is vastly higher among males than females among all age groups in most of the world. As of 2015, almost two-thirds of worldwide suicides (representing about 1.5% of all deaths) are by men.

It’s time for society to acknowledge that men, too, have emotional and physical needs. That they, too, can be victims. That they deserve compassion, respect, and support — not just for what they do, but for who they are. Creating a healthier world for men doesn’t diminish the struggles of others; it simply makes space for everyone to be heard, valued, and understood.

Don't be shy to come and see me as a Rapid Transformational Therapy session will do you the world of good. It will empower you by releasing the vibrations in you that attracted the abuse in the first place and coaching will teach you how to stand up for yourself as you deserve to be respected.

I look forward to speaking with you.

Did you know this about The vagus nerve?

It is often called the 'wandering nerve,' because it is the longest and most complex of the cranial nerves. It plays a crucial role in the parasympathetic nervous system, which controls involuntary functions like heart rate, digestion, and breathing.

Originating in the brainstem, the vagus nerve extends through the neck and thorax down to the abdomen, innervating vital organs such as the heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, and liver. It acts as a primary communication pathway between the brain and these organs, influencing mood, immune response, digestion, and heart rate variability.

Did you know that if you've had a lot of drama, trauma and pain, it affects your nervous system to the point where it can be the cause of a heart attack?

I remember a young neighbour we had once. He was in his forties, was very fit and looked so healthy. All of a sudden he dropped dead from a heart attack and I, as well as his wife wondered why. So the answer eventually came to me: it was all due to the unreleased pain he had suffered in his early years. Read the following blog as well for more scientific evidence.

This damage is invisible but deadly.

By stimulating the vagus nerve, we can promote relaxation, reduce inflammation, and improve overall well-being, highlighting its profound impact on both physical and mental health.

The vagus nerve plays a vital role in regulating our body's response to stress and promoting relaxation. Fortunately, there are several practical and accessible ways to stimulate this important nerve, helping to improve mood, reduce inflammation, and enhance overall well-being.

1. Deep, Slow Breathing: One of the simplest and most effective methods is diaphragmatic breathing, also known as belly breathing. Inhaling deeply and slowly through the nose, allowing the abdomen to expand, and then exhaling slowly through the mouth or nose, activates the vagus nerve. Aim for 5-6 breaths per minute, focusing on longer exhales.

2. Cold Exposure: Brief exposure to cold, such as splashing cold water on your face, taking a cold shower, or even drinking ice water, can stimulate the vagus nerve. The sudden cold shock activates the nerve, leading to a 'dive reflex' that slows heart rate and promotes a calming effect.

3. Humming, Chanting, or Singing: The vagus nerve passes through the vocal cords and the muscles at the back of the throat. Humming, chanting (like 'Om'), or singing loudly can create vibrations that stimulate the nerve, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

4. Gargling: Similar to humming, gargling vigorously with water stimulates the muscles at the back of the throat, which in turn activates the vagus nerve. This can be done for 30-60 seconds several times a day.

5. Meditation and Mindfulness: Practices that promote relaxation and focus, such as meditation, mindfulness, and yoga, have been shown to increase vagal tone. These activities help shift the body from a 'fight or flight' state to a 'rest and digest' state.

6. Probiotics and a Healthy Gut: The vagus nerve is a key component of the gut-brain axis. Maintaining a healthy gut microbiome through a diet rich in fiber, fermented foods, and probiotics can positively influence vagal activity and overall gut-brain communication.

7. Exercise: Regular physical activity, especially moderate exercise, can increase vagal tone and promote a healthy balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

8. Laughter and Social Connection: Genuine laughter and positive social interactions can activate the vagus nerve, leading to feelings of well-being and reduced stress. Connecting with loved ones and engaging in joyful activities are natural vagal stimulators.

Incorporating these practices into your daily routine can help you harness the power of your vagus nerve for improved physical and mental health.

The Vagus Nerve: A Critical Regulato

Introduction

As mentioned in my previous article, the vagus nerve, often referred to as the 'wandering nerve,' is the longest and most complex of the cranial nerves. It extends from the brainstem down through the neck and into the chest and abdomen, branching out to innervate various organs including the heart, lungs, and digestive system. As a primary component of the parasympathetic nervous system, the vagus nerve plays a crucial role in regulating numerous involuntary bodily functions, collectively known as the 'rest and digest' response. These functions include heart rate, digestion, respiration, immune response, and even mood regulation. Its extensive reach and diverse functions make the vagus nerve a central player in maintaining overall physiological homeostasis and well-being.

Damage or dysfunction of the vagus nerve, a condition often termed vagopathy, can lead to a wide array of health problems due to its widespread influence on bodily systems. The integrity and proper functioning of this nerve are vital for health, and its impairment can manifest in various symptoms affecting multiple organ systems. This report will delve into the effects and health risks associated with a damaged vagus nerve, with a particular focus on its intricate relationship with telomere shortening and its implications for cardiovascular health, including the risk of heart attacks.

General Effects and Health Risks of Vagus Nerve Damage

Damage or dysfunction of the vagus nerve can lead to a diverse range of symptoms and health complications, reflecting its broad regulatory roles across multiple organ systems. The severity and manifestation of these symptoms often depend on the extent and location of the nerve damage. Common causes of vagus nerve damage include physical injury, chronic diseases such as diabetes, viral infections (e.g., COVID-19), certain medical procedures, and neurological disorders.

One of the most commonly recognized effects of vagus nerve damage is on the digestive system. The vagus nerve is critical for regulating gastric motility, stomach emptying, and the secretion of digestive enzymes. When damaged, it can lead to conditions such as gastroparesis, characterized by delayed stomach emptying, which can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, bloating, early satiety, and abdominal pain [1]. Acid reflux and difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) are also frequently reported due to impaired vagal control over esophageal function [2].

Cardiovascular symptoms are another significant consequence of vagus nerve dysfunction. The vagus nerve plays a key role in regulating heart rate and blood pressure. Damage can result in abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), including bradycardia (slow heart rate) or tachycardia (fast heart rate), and fluctuations in blood pressure, potentially leading to dizziness or fainting (vasovagal syncope) [3]. The vagus nerve's influence on inflammation also impacts cardiovascular health, as chronic inflammation is a known contributor to heart disease [4].

Beyond the digestive and cardiovascular systems, vagus nerve damage can affect various other bodily functions:

  • Respiratory System: While less commonly highlighted, vagal dysfunction can contribute to respiratory issues, including shortness of breath or changes in breathing patterns [5].
  • Voice and Speech: The vagus nerve innervates the vocal cords, and its damage can lead to hoarseness, changes in voice, or difficulty speaking (dysphonia) [6].
  • Immune System and Inflammation: The vagus nerve is a crucial component of the inflammatory reflex, a neural pathway that modulates immune responses and reduces systemic inflammation. Impaired vagal tone can lead to chronic low-grade inflammation, contributing to a variety of chronic diseases [7].
  • Mental Health and Mood: The vagus nerve forms a significant part of the gut-brain axis, influencing neurotransmitter production and brain function. Dysfunction can be associated with increased anxiety, depression, and difficulties with emotional regulation [8].
  • Other Symptoms: Patients with vagus nerve damage may also experience a lack of a gag reflex, changes in pupil size, and general fatigue [9].

It is important to note that symptoms of vagus nerve damage can be subtle and overlap with other conditions, making diagnosis challenging. A comprehensive evaluation is often required to identify vagal neuropathy.

Vagus Nerve and Telomere Shortening

Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that play a crucial role in maintaining genomic stability and cellular integrity. They shorten with each cell division, and critically short telomeres are associated with cellular senescence, aging, and an increased risk of age-related diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. The rate of telomere shortening is influenced by various factors, including oxidative stress, inflammation, and psychological stress. Emerging research suggests a significant link between the vagus nerve and telomere length, primarily through its role in modulating inflammation and stress responses.

The vagus nerve is a key component of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which regulates involuntary bodily functions. The ANS, in turn, has a profound impact on cellular processes, including those related to aging and telomere maintenance. A well-functioning vagus nerve, indicative of higher vagal tone, is associated with a more balanced and resilient physiological response to stress. Conversely, impaired vagal function, often characterized by low vagal tone, can lead to chronic activation of the sympathetic nervous system (the 'fight or flight' response) and a sustained inflammatory state.

Studies have begun to elucidate the mechanisms by which the vagus nerve influences telomere length:

  • Inflammation Modulation: The vagus nerve exerts anti-inflammatory effects through the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway. By releasing acetylcholine, it can inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Chronic inflammation is a major driver of oxidative stress, which accelerates telomere shortening. Therefore, a healthy vagus nerve, by dampening inflammation, can indirectly protect telomeres from excessive attrition [10].
  • Stress Response Regulation: The vagus nerve is central to the body's stress response. Higher vagal tone is associated with better emotional regulation and reduced physiological arousal in response to stress. Chronic psychological stress is known to accelerate telomere shortening. By promoting relaxation and reducing the physiological burden of stress, the vagus nerve can contribute to telomere preservation [11].
  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV): Heart rate variability, a measure of the variation in time between heartbeats, is a widely accepted non-invasive indicator of vagal tone. Higher HRV is generally associated with better health and greater resilience. Research indicates that individuals with higher HRV tend to have longer telomeres, suggesting a direct or indirect link between robust vagal activity and telomere maintenance [12].
  • Neuroimmunomodulation: Recent research suggests that prefrontally modulated vagal neuroimmunomodulation is associated with telomere length. This indicates a complex interplay between brain regions, vagal activity, and immune responses that collectively influence cellular aging markers like telomeres [13].

While the direct causal link between vagus nerve damage and accelerated telomere shortening is still an active area of research, the evidence strongly suggests that a compromised vagus nerve, by failing to adequately regulate inflammation and stress, contributes to an environment conducive to faster telomere attrition. Maintaining optimal vagal function may therefore be a crucial strategy for promoting cellular longevity and reducing the risk of age-related diseases.

Vagus Nerve Damage and Cardiovascular Risks, Including Heart Attacks

The vagus nerve is a critical regulator of cardiovascular function, playing a pivotal role in maintaining heart rate, blood pressure, and overall cardiac health. Its influence is primarily mediated through the parasympathetic nervous system, which acts to counterbalance the sympathetic nervous system, often referred to as the 'fight or flight' response. A healthy vagal tone promotes a state of rest and recovery for the heart, while vagus nerve damage or dysfunction can significantly increase the risk of various cardiovascular complications, including heart attacks.

Mechanisms of Vagal Influence on Cardiovascular Health:

  • Heart Rate Regulation: The vagus nerve directly innervates the sinoatrial (SA) node, the heart's natural pacemaker, and the atrioventricular (AV) node. Vagal stimulation slows heart rate, while reduced vagal activity can lead to tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate) [14]. Chronic tachycardia increases the workload on the heart and can contribute to cardiac remodeling and dysfunction over time.
  • Blood Pressure Control: The vagus nerve contributes to blood pressure regulation by influencing vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and reducing peripheral vascular resistance. Impaired vagal function can lead to dysregulation of blood pressure, contributing to hypertension or orthostatic hypotension [15].
  • Anti-inflammatory Effects: As discussed earlier, the vagus nerve has potent anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic systemic inflammation is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of arteries), which is the underlying cause of most heart attacks and strokes. By mitigating inflammation, a healthy vagus nerve helps protect the cardiovascular system from damage [16].
  • Arrhythmia Prevention: The vagus nerve helps stabilize heart rhythm and prevent dangerous arrhythmias. Reduced vagal tone is associated with an increased susceptibility to various arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias, which can be precursors to more severe cardiac events [17].
  • Myocardial Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury: Research suggests that vagus nerve stimulation can reduce myocardial infarct size (the area of heart muscle damaged during a heart attack) and limit reperfusion injury (damage that occurs when blood flow is restored to ischemic tissue). This highlights the protective role of the vagus nerve during acute cardiac events [18].

Vagus Nerve Dysfunction and Increased Risk of Heart Attacks:

Damage to the vagus nerve can disrupt these protective mechanisms, leading to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and acute cardiac events. Several pathways contribute to this elevated risk:

  • Autonomic Imbalance: Vagus nerve damage shifts the balance of the autonomic nervous system towards sympathetic dominance. This chronic sympathetic overactivity leads to sustained increases in heart rate, blood pressure, and systemic inflammation, all of which are detrimental to cardiovascular health and promote the development of atherosclerosis and myocardial ischemia [19].
  • Reduced Heart Rate Variability (HRV): Low HRV, a marker of impaired vagal tone, is an independent predictor of adverse cardiovascular outcomes, including sudden cardiac death and mortality after a myocardial infarction. Individuals with damaged vagus nerves typically exhibit reduced HRV, placing them at higher risk [20].
  • Inflammation and Plaque Instability: Chronic inflammation resulting from vagal dysfunction can contribute to the formation and instability of atherosclerotic plaques. Rupture of these plaques is the primary cause of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) [21].
  • Heart Failure Progression: Impaired vagal activity is a common feature in heart failure and is associated with worse prognosis. Vagus nerve damage can exacerbate the progression of heart failure by contributing to cardiac remodeling, arrhythmias, and reduced cardiac efficiency [22].

In summary, a damaged vagus nerve compromises the body's ability to regulate critical cardiovascular functions, leading to chronic stress on the heart, increased inflammation, and a heightened susceptibility to arrhythmias and atherosclerotic disease. These factors collectively contribute to a significantly elevated risk of heart attacks and other severe cardiovascular events.

Conclusion

The vagus nerve stands as a vital conduit in the intricate network of the human body, orchestrating a vast array of physiological processes essential for health and well-being. Its profound influence extends from the regulation of basic bodily functions like digestion and heart rate to more complex systems such as inflammation, stress response, and cellular aging. Damage or dysfunction of this critical nerve, often termed vagopathy, can therefore precipitate a wide spectrum of adverse health outcomes.

This report has highlighted the significant implications of a compromised vagus nerve, particularly its connections to telomere shortening and increased cardiovascular risks. The vagus nerve's ability to modulate inflammation and stress responses directly impacts the rate of telomere attrition, suggesting that maintaining a healthy vagal tone is crucial for cellular longevity and the prevention of age-related diseases. Furthermore, its central role in regulating heart rate, blood pressure, and preventing arrhythmias underscores that vagus nerve damage can significantly elevate the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks, by fostering autonomic imbalance and chronic inflammation.

Understanding the multifaceted roles of the vagus nerve and the consequences of its impairment is paramount for both preventative healthcare and the management of chronic conditions. Research continues to uncover the intricate mechanisms by which the vagus nerve influences health and disease, paving the way for novel therapeutic strategies aimed at enhancing vagal function to promote overall well-being and extend healthy lifespan. As our knowledge deepens, the vagus nerve emerges not just as a 'wandering nerve,' but as a central pillar of physiological resilience and a key target for interventions aimed at mitigating the effects of aging and chronic disease.

Anxiety

Hmm, normally as a writer, the words I need to describe to write about a topic flow easily, not so of my RTT session with Angelique. First of all, I was drawn in and mesmerised by her lovely voice and beautiful warm countenance. Her smile is just so inviting and relaxing you instantly know you are in the best possible hands to let go and be healed. Let the magic begin!

As an RTT practitioner myself I have had many successful sessions for my clients but never for myself. I despaired at RTT's ability to heal my self. Well, yesterday I received the shock of my life or should I more accurately say I received my life back from the otherworldly healing powers of Angelique.

Within minutes I was able to just let go and let Angelique's magic take over. I was not afraid of saying anything to Angelique. Her own life story is such she deserves hero status in her ability to climb out and without bitterness use what once crushed her to lift heal and help others. I could continue singing her praises but still not come close to what she did for me. I will describe it like this: Angelique gave me hope with wings to soar to my highest potential.

I will be grateful to whatever force allowed me to attract this enlightened, mystical magical healer to my life. For the first time, I can even remember I awoke with hope, joy, excitement and no anxiety/ panic attacks!!! I have even begun to look forward with excitement booking practice sessions to develop my RTT skills and create a successful business.

Angelique is quite an exceptional teacher and I am grateful to have experienced her skills and take what I learned forward. Now I know what I would do if I was a gazillionaire, I would send the whole world to Angelique for healing. This is no exaggeration her healing skills are so great.

Thank you so much Angelique, the only way I know to really thank you is to go out there and help heal the world the way you showed me it is to be done. All the success and happiness you deserve beautiful power-filled magical lady.

As I had to do a public speaking engagement for experts at the University in Brisbane I wanted to have more confidence especially as it was done in english, not my native language.

I would also get recurring migraines most likely caused by anxiety ever since I was a kid. My father who is a Neurosurgeon treated me for years but I was looking for an alternative.

After the RTT session, I immediately noticed a significant change in the way I felt.

I started to have more self confidence to give classes and lectures, especially in another language

AND I haven't had any more migraines since. It's been two months since the session and so far the results have been permanent.

I strongly recommend an RTT session with Angelique. This new Therapy can change your life as it has changed mine.

Fear of Flying

Ever since I can remember I get motion sickness. As a school teacher when the school needs to take children by bus to another site, I would HAVE to drive my own car.... This has been quite annoying as it puts other people out and I don't like doing that but if I don't my last meal will come up guaranteed.

With it I also have had an immense fear of flying and would always go to the doctor to get some prescription tablets to help me when I knew I had to fly somewhere.

To be honest, I didn't think the RTT session did anything to me as I walked out of the session as it was so simple. However the test came when I recently flew from Brisbane to Christchurch and back which is a 4 hours flights, I have to say that it was a walk in the park. Not only did I not need any medication for the first time in my life, but I was actually excited and loved my flights.

I am really impressed with the fact that with one session only, I was able to eliminate my fear of flying. I cannot wait for my next holiday now which will be to the Los Angeles.

I highly recommend RTT to anyone who has a fear of flying or any similar phobia as it really, really works!! Thank you Angelique.
